Denso's Harvester Robot: A Leap Towards Sustainable Agriculture

Revolutionizing Farming with Denso's Award-Winning Robot

As the global population soars, Denso Corporation introduces an innovative solution to address the impending food crisis and labor shortages in agriculture with its state-of-the-art Harvester Robot.

Denso Corporation, a pioneer in automation, has taken a significant stride in addressing the challenges of a burgeoning global population, which is projected to surpass 10 billion by 2050. The Harvester Robot emerges as a beacon of hope, particularly for regions grappling with food scarcity and a dearth of agricultural workers. This robotic marvel is not just a machine; it is a symbol of Denso's commitment to transforming the food value chain and fostering a sustainable society.

Distinct from its contemporaries, the Harvester Robot is designed with empathy at its core. It boasts a friendly appearance, complete with eyes visible from any angle, signaling its movement direction and fostering a sense of trust. The robot's sleek, rounded form and pearlescent finish exude an air of approachability, while its advanced safety features ensure that it can coexist harmoniously with human counterparts.

Denso's Harvester Robot is the fruit of cutting-edge technology, integrating image processing and robotic precision to redefine harvesting. Its modular design not only enhances versatility but also ensures accessibility through cost-effectiveness. Cleanliness is paramount, with a design that minimizes dirt accumulation and conceals cables for a tidy appearance. The robot's intuitive indicator lights and obstacle detection system underscore its user-friendly and safe operation.

Measuring 1230mm by 1320mm by 930mm and weighing 300 kg, the robot is a compact powerhouse designed for large-scale horticultural facilities. It autonomously navigates along pre-laid rails, utilizing cameras and sensors to identify ripe cherry tomatoes for harvest. The robot's arm delicately cuts and collects entire bunches of tomatoes, even operating during off-hours to maximize productivity and address labor shortages.

The Harvester Robot is the culmination of collaborative efforts by Denso's cross-divisional team, including experts from the Food Value Chain Business Development, Production Engineering, Mobility Electronics R&D, and Design Divisions. Launched in March 2020, the robot's demonstration unit began its journey in AgriD, Inabe City, Japan, showcasing the tangible benefits of integrating machine efficiency with human expertise in agriculture.

Denso's Harvester Robot not only streamlines the harvesting process but also alleviates the physical strain on farmers, enabling them to focus on tasks that require a human touch. This design triumph has earned the prestigious Platinum A' Robotics, Automaton and Automation Design Award in 2024, a testament to its exceptional innovation and potential to shape a more sustainable and efficient future for global agriculture.
